Support ‘Cell Phones for Soldiers’ at YPD The Yarmouth Police Department continues to support Cell Phones for Soldiers and serves as an active drop off collection point for all unwanted cell phones and chargers.
Remember the phones do not have to work! The cell phones, batteries, and chargers are all sold to a company that recycles them. The money that is raised for the phones is then used to purchase calling cards that we send to our soldiers serving.
The phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone – enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad.
Citizens are urged to help Support our Troops and bring any unwanted cell phones or chargers to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and drop them off in our front lobby at anytime 24/7.
- The average person upgrades their phone every 16 months
- An estimated 130 million phones will be retired this year in the United States
- Approximately 202,000 ounces of gold could be recovered if these phone had been recycled
